Key Services Provided:

  • MIKE21 hydrodynamic model
  • E2 model
  • Event based water quality monitoring

Overview

Water Technology and Melbourne University were engaged to undertake a catchment audit to identify sources of pollutants and develop strategies to protect the ecological values of the RAMSAR listed estuary. The project team developed a comprehensive sediment and nutrient model (E2) of the catchments of Corner Inlet calibrated to event based water quality monitoring.

The method incorporated separate catchment and receiving waters model, the latter being a hydrodynamic model with pollutant tracers utilising the software MIKE 21. The simulations of these two calibrated models were then integrated within a single software framework so to produce a Decision Support System (DSS). The DSS allows scenario testing of catchment works to plan and prioritise future investments and make decisions on what comprises appropriate catchment works to protect and enhance the integrity of the Corner Inlet RAMSAR site.
