Overview

Despite our size and relatively small population, Australia has a very urbanised population concentrated around the capital cities and main provincial centres. Two significant trends are occurring in our cities, consolidation and increased density of development within older established suburbs as well as continued urban expansion in the outer fringe. These patterns of development place increased pressure on existing infrastructure.

Drainage and stormwater management systems are a critical component of this urban infrastructure as they interface our urban environment with the natural surface water environment. The management of these systems increasingly requires the ability to merge technical engineering skills with an awareness of the issues of environmental value and sustainability.

Water Technology is one of Australia’s leading water sector consultancies offering a comprehensive range of services to both government and private industry clients. Our staff provide the understanding and technical skills necessary to meet the specialised engineering and environmental challenges faced within the urban stormwater field. We combine leading edge technology with outstanding project experience to deliver economic and environmentally sustainable solutions.

Selected Projects

Detailed Stormwater Management Plan – Werribee

Client: Asplan Town Planning
Water Technology has provided concept through to detailed design of the stormwater treatment and conveyance systems within the Montage Estate development. With our ability to determine flooding, conveyance, storage and treatment requirements for the mixed use development, we were able to derive an integrated and cost effective solution for the client. Our ability to combine all these components sets Water Technology apart from other consultancies offering similar services.

Wetland Design and Flood Mitigation – Warragul

Client: Aus Civil
Water Technology was originally engaged by Aus Civil to prepare designs for a stormwater management plan for an industrial development in Warragul. Without mitigation the development produced unacceptable offsite flooding issues, and as such a combined wetland / flood retardation system was designed.

Austral Bricks Water Efficiency Management Plans

Client: Austral Bricks
Austral Bricks approached Water Technology to assist in the preparation and endorsement of WEMPs for their Rochedale and Riverview plants. Stormwater harvesting using the roof area was also investigated. Through consideration of the process demands and likely runoff (utilising 100 years of historic rainfall data) Water Technology has assisted in sizing and layout of the constructed storages to maximise the reliability of supply. As a result, it is anticipated that Austral Bricks is likely to reduce their consumption of mains water by up to 90%. Funding for around 50% of implementation costs has since been secured through the QLD government’s BWEP scheme.
