Overview
Water Technology was commissioned by the City of Casey to investigate the flooding impacts in a 5 year to 100 year ARI storm event in the coastal Victorian township of Tooradin. The study also involved the functional design and testing of mitigation works to reduce or remove the instance of flooding in the 5 year ARI event for both current and future development conditions. The modelling investigation was undertaken in order to gain an improved understanding of the complex drainage conditions which occur within Tooradin as well as further the understanding of the potential impacts of Climate Change to assist the City of Casey with future development planning, decision making and capital works programs.
A detailed linked 1D/2D MIKE FLOOD model was built utilising the latest LiDAR elevation data. All existing drainage was included in the modelling from the very small lot scale drainage through to Tooradin Inlet. Mapping of conditions with the proposed mitigation works in place showed removed or reduced flooding in all areas.
